WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State gymnastics team shined on Senior Night, sweeping event titles in a 186.175-183.250 win over Hamline University Friday evening in McCown Gymnasium.
Senior Jade Donaldson assembled her best all-around score of the season with a 37.275, scoring above a 9.0 on each apparatus. Donaldson finished with a 9.550 on the vault, along with a 9.475 on floor, a 9.200 on bars and a 9.050 on the beam.
Senior Brooke Hiestand tied for third on the floor exercise with a 9.525 while also scoring a 9.450 on the vault. Senior Emily Goldeman also sported a rock solid 9.500 on the vault, while senior Olivia Cattelino posted a 9.100 on the bars.
The Warrior underclassmen played a big role in sending their seniors out in style, led by a phenomenal night from sophomore Eboni Jackson, who posted a stellar 38.250 all-around score. Jackson won three of the four events – the vault with a 9.650, the balance beam with a 9.500 and the floor with a 9.650 – while placing second on the uneven bars 9.450 behind only teammate Katie Pipp's winning routine of 9.475. A pair of freshmen – in Natalie Koehler and Miranda Saathoff finished second and third on the balance beam behind Jackson with a 9.350 and a 9.325, respectively.
WSU's vault routine score of 47.500 was the second best in program history, behind only last week's record-setting score of 47.800 as each of the five counted scores was a 9.350 or better.
The Warriors conclude the regular season at the Best of Minnesota next Saturday, Feb. 27 in Minneapolis as a final tune-up before the WIAC Championship/NCGA West Regional in La Crosse on March 4.
