Warriors Conclude Busy Week Saturday at Drake Relays, SMU

WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State track and field team wrapped up a busy three days Saturday after sending individuals to the Drake Relays, Simpson College and the Saint Mary's Open.

Drake Relays

The Warriors came home with some outstanding performances at the Drake Relays – among the most prestigious track and field events in the country. One of only four 4x400-meter relay teams out of 32 to advance to the finals, the Winona State squad of Megan Seidl, Taylor Vogel, Katie Bagley and Brittany Schyvinck earned an impressive third place finish with a time of 3:48.98.

Nicole Nelson also took sixth in the hammer throw with a heave of 54.52 meters, which was the top throw of any non-Division I collegian in the field.

Saint Mary's Open

Freshman Erin Bramble won the discus throw with a toss of 139' 9", while Abbey Ristow finished fifth a 130' 7". Ristow also took home the top spot in the hammer throw with a distance of 165' 1".

Lindsay Rutz and Heather Buckler finished second and third in the shot put with throws of 39' 11 ½" and 39' 10", respectively.

Sophomore Megan Grochowski earned a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 27.15.

Freshman Kari Schneiss (1:05.15) and Karina Elford (1:05.30) finished second and third, respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles.

Sophomore McKenzie Carper added a second-place result in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:51.18.

Sophomore Brittany Dulak picked up a third-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.59.

Junior Haley Reinke took third in the long jump with a leap of 16' 11 ¼".

Kip Janvrin Open

The Warriors picked up a pair of second place finishes in field events to open the week Thursday at the Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola, Iowa.

Ashley Thooft took second in the discus with a throw of 146' 9", while Abbey Ristow took fourth with a throw of 133' 2".

Erin Perkins also picked up a second place finish in the hammer throw at 177' 1", while Nicole Nelson finished third at 174' 2". Kaitlyn Long finished fifth at 168' 9".

Winona State hosts the Warrior Challenge next Saturday, May 7 at Paul Giel Field.
