NOTES
WEEKEND RECAP: The Warriors opened up its home slate of conference games last weekend against Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul. In Friday night's matchup, WSU took down Minnesota State by the score of 80-52. The Warrior starters shared the workload as four of the five scored in double figures. The WSU defense held the Mavericks to less than 30% shooting. Concordia-St. Paul came into town on Saturday and left in defeat at the hands of Winona State. The two teams played a back and forth first quarter, but the Warriors opened the second with an 11-to-2 run and never looked back, winning 62-43. Again, Winona State held their opponent to less than 30% shooting from the field Saturday and forced 12 turnovers.
THIRD OF THE WAY THROUGH: Nine games into the season the Warrior women's basketball team is 8-1 (4-1 NSIC) and riding a three-game winning streak. Currently in the fourth position overall, and tied for second in the NSIC South behind unbeaten No. 18 Augustana, WSU sees themselves near the top of many statistical categories in the conference. Winona State ranks fourth in scoring (73.3), first in field goal percentage (49%), and second in three-point field goal percentage (37%).
UPPER IOWA SCOUTING REPORT: Since the last time the two teams met, Upper Iowa has gone winless. The Peacocks have been shooting 30% from the field in the last five games as well as 28% from beyond the arc. UIU is also prone to turning the ball over as they have committed on average 16 turnovers per game in the last five games. Blair Klostermann leads the Peacocks so far this season averaging 12 points per game.
MAKING IT RAIN: Freshman standout Allie Pickrain is continuing to prove she belongs in the Warrior starting lineup. She is averaging 12 points per game while shooting 47% from three-point range and knocking down 11-of-17 free throw attempts. She has scored in double figures in seven of the nine games this season. This past weekend she shot over 50% in all three major categories; field goal percentage (.53), three-point field goal percentage (.60).
SENIOR STANDOUT: Hannah McGlone is having herself one heck of a senior season so far. This season, she is shooting a league-leading 62% from the field and has already tallied 97 rebounds in nine games. McGlone continues to occupy the fifth spot on the conference scoring list (15 ppg) and still holds the top spot in rebounds per game (10.8).
KNOW YOUR ROLE: Sophomore Gabie Doud has been the Warriors key contributor off the bench this season. After playing in every game and averaging just short of 10 minutes per game last year as a freshman and posting a 43% shooting percentage, she has assumed a similar role this season. Doud has nearly doubled her minutes so far (18 per game) and is making an even bigger impact. She is shooting 55% from the field and 46% from three-point range. The sophomore is averaging 8.8 points per game and is becoming a dual threat off the bench that can play the post position down low as well as shoot the three ball.
