Doris Killian has sponsored and supported the Winona State Warrior Club Golf and Tennis Classis tournament for 12 years.  The important annual fund raising Killian Classic is named in her honor.

She participated in volleyball and basketball at Winona State from 1957-60 before the formal organization of intercollegiate athletics for women.  Doris became one of this area’s most accomplished golfers, winning numerous golf championships that include Fort Lewis Wash. Club tournament at Eau Claire Hillcrest three times from 1977-84, the Northfield Invitational twice in 1980-81 and the Wisconsin Golf Coaches Association Tournament twice in 1989-90.


She was runner-up in the Minnesota State Tournament in 1963, took consolation honors at the Wisconsin State Tournament in 1969 and has won the Winona City Championship several times.


Doris was the first girls track coach at Cochrane-Fountain City, Wisc. High School and her teams were consistent winners in each of her 13 years as coach.  Her track teams won three conference championships, produced two state champion relay teams in 1982 and yearly participants in the state track meet.  She was named district track Coach of the Year in 1981.  Her high school coaching expertise also includes golf, volleyball and basketball.


Doris has been active in community projects in Fountain City including the 150-year community celebration and fund drives for cancer, heart, arthritis and cystic fibrosis.  She has served Immaculate Conception Church for Fountain City as a council member and lector.  She was a member of the Winona YMCA Board of Directors, the Wisconsin Education Association, the National Education Association and the Wisconsin Golf and Track Coaches Association.
