Callender was a member of the WSU track & field team and was the 2007 NCAA National Champion in the weight throw. In 2006, she was the NCAA National Runner-Up in weight throw. In her career, she was a four-time All-American (twice in hammer, and twice in weight throw).

She is a former NSIC Conference Record Holder in weight throw, and a former WSU School Record Holder in hammer and weight throw. Callender is a two-time NSIC Champion in the weight throw, and was a NSIC Champion in the hammer throw. She competed in the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships in ‘06 and ‘07. The Warriors were 10th at nationals in 2007. Winona State won the NSIC Indoor Championships in ‘05 and ’06, and also won the NSIC Outdoor Championship in ‘05.

Callender earned a degree in exercise and rehabilitative sciences-cardiopulmonary rehabilitation. She currently serves as a senior exercise physiologist in the cardiac rehab department at Aurora St. Luke’s Hospital and lives in Kenosha, Wisconsin. She and her husband, John, have two children, Graham and Quinn.
