For John D. DeLozier wrestling has been a lifetime experience. Much of that experience began in Winona when he chose Winona State Teachers College for his education and extension of his wrestling career.

DeLozier wrestled for Winona State in the days when the wrestling program was in its infancy. He helped lead the young program to greater successes while wrestling for Bob Jones and gaining great accomplishments for himself.

During his career as a Warrior, DeLozier was second at 123 pounds in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' 1958 national championship. He was the 115-pound champion in the 1958 Northern Intercollegiate Conference championships and eventually placed third in the 1959 and second in the 1960 championships. Throughout his collegiate career the Warriors compiled a 30-12-2 record.

The success DeLozier enjoyed at Winona continued after his graduation. He went on to teach and coach at the Bertha-Hewitt, Minn., School District for eight years before moving to Rocori High School in Cold Spring, Minn. While at Rocori, DeLozier compiled a 331-136-8 coaching record, won eight sectional championships, sent eight teams to the state tournament where those teams placed third once, fourth twice and fifth once. He coached 26 individual state place finishers during his 32-year coaching career.

DeLozier also coached the Rocori High School girls golf team for 20 years. He sent two teams to the state tournament and placed third in 1982 and second in 1984.

For his efforts in high school education DeLozier was named Rocori Teacher of the Year in 1991 and was inducted to the Dave Bartelma Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1992.

DeLozier retired in 1993 but continues to be active in Rocori athletic and Cold Spring civic organizations.
