Ochs broke numerous men’s track and field records that still stand today as an All-American and captain of the track and field and cross country teams in the late 1960s. Ochs excelled in cross county/track. He was captain of both cross country/track 1966-68 and won the Cross Country Conference Championship in 1967, 440 yard Conference Track Champion in 1968, setting a school record (47.1) while doing it. He won the 1968, 880 yard dash in 1:51.9, setting a school record, received part of the school record in the 4x440 yard, 4x880 yard, distance medley and sprint relay teams in 1967-68. Ochs ran at the Texas Relays, Penn Relays and Drake Relays. He also ran at NAIA Championships in 1968 and broke his own school record with a time of 1:47.1. He was named 1968 NAIA All American, sang in WSU Choir, a member of WSU W-Club in 1967-68 and in 1969 he was a nominee for America’s Outstanding College Athletes.
