Tom Sanvik was named as the head women's tennis coach at Winona State University in August, 2020. 

In his first season at the helm, Sanvik led the program to a 16-5 overall record and a 9-2 NSIC mark. The Warriors were 5-1 at home and enjoyed a 8-2 record in neutral-site matches. WSU advanced to the finals of the NSIC Tennis Tournament, earning wins against the University of Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State before falling to Augustana University in the championship.  Winona State finished second overall in the regular season and was the No. 2 seed in the NSIC postseason. 

The 2022-23 campaign saw Winona State go 9-9 overall on the season and 6-5 in NSIC play. WSU qualified for the 2023 NSIC Tennis Tournament, falling to the University of Mary in the opening round. The Warriors opened the season with a 5-1 record, their only loss coming at the hands of NCAA Division I Northern Illinois University. 

Sanvik has coached both the boys and girl's tennis teams at WSHS since 1988; he also serves as the camp director and head instructor for the Winona Area Tennis Association.  Additionally, Sanvik also works as a teaching professional for the Winona Area Tennis Center, a position he began in 2017. 

Sanvik competed in both men's tennis and hockey for Minnesota State University, Mankato.  While there, he earned a bachelor's degree in education, with a specialization in special education at the K-12 levels.  He went on to earn a master's degree in special education from the University of Minnesota in 1999. In addition to coaching tennis, Sanvik has served as the varsity girls hockey coach at Winona Senior High School as well.
