MOORHEAD, Minn. – After narrowly missing out on an upset Friday in Aberdeen, the Warriors had a rough night on both ends of the floor and suffered an 80-54 setback to MSU Moorhead Saturday night at Nemzek Fieldhouse in Moorhead.

Winona State had a nightmarish start to the game as the Warriors were struck with a 21-2 deficit with 11:21 to go in the half before they would score their second bucket.

Winona State would go on a 10-3 run over the next four minutes to get the lead down to 24-12 as
Kali Hackmann scored seven points on two layups and a 3-pointer and
Connor Nagle added a 3-pointer of her own to get the lead down to 12.

However, another Dragon 7-0 run over the next three minutes put the Warriors down 19 with 4:31 to go in the half.

Winona State would manage to get the lead down to 14 with a 7-2 run to make it 33-19, but the Dragons would end the half on a 4-0 run to put Winona State down 37-19 at the half.

The Warriors shot just 25 percent in the half from the field and from behind the arc in the first half and didn't attempt a single free throw. Hackmann led the WSU scoring effort in the first half with seven points.

Winona State would have a difficult time with a comeback effort in the second half.

The Warriors managed to cut the deficit down to 11 on a 3-pointer by
Tara Roelofs to make it 55-44 with 9:12 to go.

However, the Dragons shut down any sort of comeback Winona State might have had by going on an 11-0 run over the next three minutes to give MSU-Moorhead a 66-44 lead and would not allow the lead to slip below 18 for the rest of the game.

While the Warriors did have a better offensive effort in the second half, they still struggled to shoot the ball as they finished the game shooting 36 percent from the field and 34 percent from behind the arc.
Winona State also struggled on the glass as the Dragons outrebounded them 52-28, including 21 offensive rebounds for MSU Moorhead. The Dragons also outdueled the Warriors in second chance points as a result, 24-5.

Despite the offensive struggles, Roelofs had a big game for the Warriors as she led the way with 19 points 7-of-11 shooting and 5-of-8 from three-point range, as well as dishing out a team-high three assists.
Kayla Timmerman and Hackmann joined her in double-figures with 12 and 10 points respectively.

Next up for Winona State (9-3, 5-3 NSIC) will be a rematch against Sioux Falls at home as the Warriors will look to try and snap their first losing streak of the season. Tip-off will be at 6 p.m. in McCown Gymnasium on Friday, January 9.
