MINOT, N.D. – The Winona State men's basketball team struggled offensively in a 63-46 loss to Minot State Saturday night at the MSU Dome.
The Warriors, who have hit a 3-pointer in 491 straight games dating back more than 15 years, hit just one in the game (1-of-13) – a Conrad Masberg triple that put the Warriors up 11-3. The quick start fizzled and the Beavers used an 11-2 run to erase the WSU lead and take a 14-13 advantage with 8:09 to play. Back-to-back layups from Corey Jeffs put WSU back up 21-15 and despite late shooting struggles, the Warriors trailed by just two, 28-26, at halftime.
But the Warriors made just six baskets in the second half, going 6-of-24 from the field (24 percent) while putting 20 points on the board as the Beavers slowly pulled away for the double-digit victory.
Masberg led the Warriors with 14 points and four rebounds, while Kyle Bauman added 12 points and four rebounds. Mark Blacklock finished with 10 rebounds and led the Warriors with eight boards.
The loss was the team's first to Minot State, with the Warriors winning the previous five matchups in the short series history.
Winona State (7-9, 6-6 NSIC) returns to McCown Gym next weekend for a pair of important NSIC South matchups against Augustana and Wayne State.
