WINONA, Minn. – The University of Sioux Falls (4-5, 1-1 NSIC) made 14-27 from three as the left McCown Gymnasium with a 90-81 win over Winona State (3-2, 0-1 NSIC). Two Warriors,
Kyle Bauman and
Riley Bambenek finished with 20+ points on the night.
Bauman led the Warriors with 22 points on 11-22 shooting; his 11 made field goals were second most in his career. Bambenek poured in 20 points thanks to three shots from behind the arc.
Isaiah Gray was nearly perfect on the night, scoring 18 points on 7-8 shooting.
Connor Flack also finished in double figures with ten points.
The Warriors went up 11-3 after a layup by Gray. The lead grew to nine with 10:37 left in the first half. After a jumper from Bauman the Cougars went on a quick 8-0 run cutting the Warriors lead to just one. The run was sparked by two shots from distance.
Sioux Falls took their first lead of the game on a layup with just over seven minutes to play in the half. The lead would change hands a couple times before a 5-0 run gave the Cougars a 30-25 lead. Their lead grew to seven before taking a 35-29 lead into the locker room.
Gray hit a layup with under 17 minutes to play cutting the deficit to just a single possession. The Cougars would again extend their lead back to nine but a 10-3 WSU run, sparked by four points from Gray, brought the Warriors within two at 55-53.
Charlie Koontz hit a three minutes later to get Winona State within one at 57-56. The Warriors never got over the hill and soon USF put together an 11-1 run, capped off by a Mack Johnson three. After falling behind by 14 the Warriors scored six straight to force a Cougar timeout. The timeout slowed the WSU momentum and the Warriors never got closer than seven the rest of the way.
