#17 Warriors Suffer First Loss At Home To Augustana

WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State (16-4, 11-3 NSIC) women's basketball team couldn't overcome the fast pace of the Augustana Vikings, as they suffered their first home loss of the season 80-63.

In a fast paced first quarter the Vikings were able to outscore the Warriors 23-17. The Vikings had a quick start, but the Warriors were able to find buckets of their own to exchange with the Vikings and keep the lead within reach. Both teams shot very well in the first quarter of action, the Vikings shot at 60 percent clip from the field and the Warriors 53 percent from the field.

The second quarter proved to be a challenge for the Warriors, as they were only able to get a handful of successful field goals, including two free throws from Emily Wirth. The Vikings added 17 points to their score to take a 13-point lead headed into halftime.

In the third quarter the Warriors chipped the Vikings' lead down to just nine points with a little more than six minutes to play. Continuing their rally Liz Evenocheck knocked down a deep three-pointer to bring the Warriors within two at 52-50, with three minutes left in the quarter. Augustana would go on a 9-2 spurt to end the quarter, and led 61-52 after 30 minutes of play.

The Warriors connected on just four shots in the final quarter. The Vikings on the other hand, were able to capitalize on enough opportunities to hang on to their lead and finish the game up 80-63.

The Warriors shot 41 percent from the field and 24 percent from deep. The Warriors made 7-11 free throws. The Vikings shot 51 percent from the field and 36 percent from deep. The Vikings made 9-13 free throws.
