WINONA, Minn. – Jenny Tuttle scored 19 points to lead the Warriors (17-4, 12-3 NSIC) in Saturday night's 65-47 win over the University of Mary (10-13, 5-10 NSIC). The Warriors scored 21 points from Marauder turnovers.
The game opened with five straight possessions without a score from either team. The Marauders turned the ball over on back-to-back possessions before the Marauders finally sank a three-pointer to get things started. It was a pretty even start as the Warriors faced their second zone defense opponent. The Warriors would end the first period down by a basket, 12-10.
In the second quarter the lead changed hands nine times as the Warriors went three of five from three-point range. The Marauders added 10 points to their total as they connected on a few baskets including a three-pointer and three free throws.
Shooting almost 70 percent from the field the Warriors began to pick up steam and pull away from the Marauders. The Marauders also shot a solid 50 percent from the field coming out of the locker room. The Warriors knocked down four of six three-point attempts in the period to create their separation.
Jenny Tuttle and
Tara Roelofs together added 18 points including four three-pointers. Tuttle made the most of two free throws to extend the Warrior lead to 50-39 heading into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter the Warriors would build their lead up to 19 twice before finishing 18 points in front of the Marauders.
The Warriors shot 45 percent from the field and 41 percent from behind the arc. The Warriors made six of eight free throws.
The Marauders shot 38 percent from the field and 29 percent from behind the arc. The Marauders made six of nine free throws.
Jenny Tuttle scored 19 points, thanks to a 5-9 shooting night from three.
Tara Roelofs scored 12 points and Hanna McGlone added 11.
Winona State will head north to face #16 Minnesota State Moorhead (17-3, 14-2 NSIC) and Northern State (15-5, 11-5 NSIC) next weekend.
