Despite Evenocheck's Career Night Warriors Fall 67-63 To Wayne State

Warriors Seeded Fifth In NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament

WAYNE, Neb. – Despite an outstanding 27-point performance from Liz Evenocheck the Warriors were unable to get past the Wildcats of Wayne State in their final regular season matchup, as they fell 67-63. Evenocheck knocked down seven of 10 three-pointers while shooting a hot 71 percent on the night. The Warriors have landed a in the fifth seed of the NSIC/Sanford Health tournament and will play the University of Mary on Wednesday February 22nd in the first round. 
 
The game opened up with a Wayne State jumper followed by an Evenocheck three-pointer. The Warriors held a lead by as much as six points until mid-way through the first quarter when the Wildcats tied up the score at 13 with a fast break layup. The score would be knotted up twice more before the Wildcats would gain a four-point advantage at the end of the first quarter.
 
In the second quarter the Warriors worked back into the lead momentarily, before the Wildcats would take it back with a jumper, three minutes before halftime. The Wildcats ended the half up 35-31.
 
The Wildcats controlled the third quarter as they never lost the lead while pushing it out to seven points early on. The Warriors did cut the lead to just one, but couldn't hang on as the Wildcats managed a five-point advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
 
Buckets from Gabie Doud and Evenocheck gave the Warriors a one-point lead just two minutes into the final quarter. Two minutes later an Evenocheck three would tie the score at 51. Evenocheck would knock down two more threes to keep the Wildcats within reach at 58-57. A three-pointer from Jenny Tuttle would give the Warriors a two-point lead with just under four minutes to play. Capitalizing on a foul and another offensive possession the Wildcats took the lead back with three minutes to play and would never look back. The Warriors had a few chances in the last minute to tie up the game or take the lead, but were unable to capitalize as they fell 67-63.
 
Evenocheck finished 10 of 14 shooting from the field and seven of 10 from three to lead all scorers with 27 points; all career highs for the sophomore guard. Jenny Tuttle chipped in 12 points and three Warriors added six points each.
 
The Warriors shot 39 percent from the field as well as from three-point range. The Warriors made eight of 14 free throws.
 
The Wildcats shot 38 percent from the field and 27 percent from the field. Making 19 of 22 free throws the Wildcats shot 86 percent from the free throw line.
 
The Warriors will make the trek up to Bismarck, N.D. to face Mary in the first round of the NSIC/Sanford Health tournament on Wednesday, February 22 for a 7 p.m. start. The winner of that matchup will advance to the quarterfinals at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, where the remainder of the tournament will be held.
