WINONA, Minn. - Winona State rebounded after an extra inning loss to Rockhurst yesterday to beat Mercyhurst in the nightcap. The Warriors fell 4-3 in eight innings despite a three-run rally in the top of the seventh. Against Mercyhurst the Warriors scored six runs in the bottom of the first to win 6-0, the victory improved the Warriors record to 3-0 in games following a loss this season.

Vs Rockhurst

After a scoreless first inning, Rockhurst scored an unearned run to grab a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. In the next frame, Rockhurst added two runs thanks to a bases loaded double with two outs. The runner on first tried to score, but was thrown out at home to end the inning.

The Warriors had a runner in scoring position in the fourth and sixth innings but could not get the hit to drive in a run. That changed in the seventh inning when the WSU offense came alive. The first three batters of the inning reached base, including hits from
Katelyn Kolb and
McKenna Larsen.
Lani Van Zyl flew out to left but a couple errors allowed both
Jamee Schleis and Kolb to score. With Larsen on third,
Samantha McLean had a sac fly to left field, tying the game at three.

Playing by the international tiebreaker the extra inning started with a runner on second base for both teams. The Warriors stranded a runner on third in the top of the eighth. Rockhurst advanced a runner to third with a sac bunt. Winona State intentionally walked the next two batters before a bases loaded walk ended the game.

Winona State started the bottom of the first with four straight singles, taking a 2-0 lead. Larsen and Van Zyl had RBI singles during the four hit barrage. After a RBI ground out by McLean before back-to-back singles by
Paige Keegan and
Alison Nowak putting the Warriors up by four.
Shaye Witte doubled to left field to drive in Nowak and Keegan before the six-run rally ended.

Mercyhurst had a pair of hits and loaded the bases in the top of the second but did not get on the scoreboard. Neither team had a base runner in the third or fourth innings of play. In the fifth inning, both the Warriors and the Lakers had a hit but could not do anything with it.

In the sixth inning, Mercyhurst put runners on second and third before a fly ball to right field ended the inning. Winona State also had two runner on base in the sixth as well and like Mercyhurst, they would fail to score.

After an off day, Winona State will take on Bentley and Grand Valley State.
