SEARCY, Ark. – Winona State (51-12) set a new school record in wins by beating Southern Arkansas (46-18) 4-3 in their second game of the day. The win advances the Warriors to the Harding Regional Championship tomorrow at 10 a.m. The Warriors will need to beat Harding twice to advance to the NCAA Super Regionals against Minnesota State, Mankato.
Southern Arkansas scored a run in the bottom of the first, doing so with a two out single to right field. After a quick second inning and top of the third the Muleriders struck again in the third. Maddie Dow hit a homer to lead off the inning, giving SAU a 2-0 lead. Another two out single made it 3-0 at the end of three.
Winona State loaded the bases with three straight one out walks in the top of the fourth. An error allowed
Mariah Schultz to score the Warriors first run of the game.
Samantha McLean drove in a pair of runs and another scored on a SAU error following her single through the right side and Winona State took a 4-3 lead.
For the next four innings the Warriors pitching staff was dominate. The Muleriders drew a walk in the fourth but couldn't get anything out of it. After being set down in order in the fifth and sixth
McKenna Larsen came in to the game in the seventh. Larsen would allow one hit but struck out three to earn her second save of the year.
Jordyn Kleman won her 20
th game of the year, throwing six innings and striking out two.
