Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Shooting slump continues for Warrior women in loss at Minot

MINOT, N.D. – Allie Pickrain tallied her second straight 20- point game, but it wasn't enough as Winona State University dropped a 76-50 decision at Minot State University on Friday night.

The Warriors shot well beyond their season average from the field, falling below the 40 percent mark for the fifth straight contest. WSU shot just 33 percent while suffering its fifth consecutive loss.

Winona State kept the Beavers at arm's length in the first quarter until Minot State went on a 10-0 run to close out the quarter to take a 23-12.

Pickrain sunk back-to-back three-pointers to open the second quarter to make it a 23-18 game, giving the Warriors a much-needed spark. The freshman proceeded to go 5-for-5 in the quarter from downtown as Winona outscored Minot, 21-15 in the quarter, to slash the Beavers' lead to 38-33 at the break.

However, the Warriors went ice cold after halftime, failing to knock down a field goal in their first 12 attempts of the third quarter while the home team scored 18 unanswered points. Hannah McGlone finally broke the drought with Winona's lone buck of the period as Minot took a commanding 56-36 advantage into the fourth.

The Beavers went on to build a 32-point lead on two separate occasions in the final quarter on their way to their fourth straight win.

Winona State falls to 13-6 (9-6 NSIC) on the year while Minot State improves to 10-9 (7-8 NSIC).

The Warriors surrendered 17 turnovers on the night which turned into 26 points for the Beavers.

Gabbie Doud saw her first action in over a month and scored five points in the setback. Julia Silloway came off the bench to score a career-high seven points for WSU.

The Warriors look to salvage a weekend split as they travel to U-Mary on Saturday for a 4 p.m. tip.
