Warriors cap busy weekend with strong showing at Cardinal Open

WINONA, Minn. – It was another successful weekend for the Warriors as the Winona University track & field team competed in a pair of meets. A group of Warriors traveled to Des Moines, Iowa for the renowned Drake Relays which were held from Thursday-Saturday. Meanwhile, the bulk of the team competed down the road at Saint Mary's University in the Cardinal Open.

The NSIC Multi Championships also got underway on Sunday and will conclude Monday.

Raissa Hansen placed ninth in her final competition at the Drake Relays on Thursday night. The senior recorded a time of 11:02.89 in the 3000m steeplechase which was better than five Division I athletes in the race.

On Saturday morning at Drake, the Warrior distance medley relay team placed eighth among the field of 14 teams. The team comprised of Anna Rogahn, Hope Willenbrink, McKenzie Carper and Nikki Staffen posted a time of 12:10.97 which is the second-fastest in program outdoor history.

At their home away from home, competing at Saint Mary's on Saturday, the Warriors collected five first-place marks.

Senior Madison Schroeder won the 800m run in a time of 2:20.77. McKenzie Fortier's time of 18:26.02 was the top mark in the 5000m and set a new personal best while landing her in 10th all-time in the Warrior record book.

Amanda Schaefer and Tamara Price each cleared the 1.60m height to top the field in high jump. Senior Tamika Tucker shows no signs of slowing down as they collected a first-place finish in the long jump for the fifth straight meet. Ever since winning the NSIC Indoor Championship in the event, Tucker has continued to show improvement and moved into third place all-time in Warrior outdoor history by clearing 19 feet for the first time in her career (5.84m).

Erin Bramble bested the competition in the discus throw with a toss of 41.61 meters. The senior edged her freshman teammate, Kelsey Judge, who finished second with a distance of 39.38m. Bramble also placed second in the hammer throw (48.74m) and javelin (33.66m).

On day one of the multi-event championships in Aberdeen, South Dakota, Winona's Olivia Fixsen sits in third place. She recorded times of 14.69 (100 hurdles) and 26.13 (200m), and marks of 1.60m (high jump) and 9.14m (shot put).

The NSIC Multis conclude on Monday and scores will count toward the NSIC Outdoor Championships which are scheduled for May 11-12 hosted by Winona State. The Warriors final meet before the conference championships is slated for Friday, May 4 at the Mankato Twilight.
