SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Senior Mason Domask scored a season-high 19 points Friday night for Winona State University in a thrilling double overtime contest that saw the University of Sioux Falls outlast the Warriors, 84-80.
Domask (4-6) was one of three Warriors to have a standout night from three-point range, along with Nick Klug (4-8) and Kevion Taylor (4-9) as WSU shot 42.9% from long range in the loss. Winona State knocked down 15 three-pointers, marking the first time this season the Warriors have lost a game in which they sank at least 13 baskets from beyond the arc.
Taylor recorded 18 points and a team-best nine rebounds on the night while the freshman, Klug, tallied a career-best 16 point in the loss.
Klug's bucket from downtown ultimately sent the game into overtime at 66-66. The rookie drilled back-to-back triples late in the second half to erase a three-point lead by the Cougars on two occasions. Neither team scored over the final 1:59 of regulation as WSU and USF would then combine for just eight points in the first overtime frame.
Winona State went ahead in the second overtime period on consecutive baskets by Caleb Wagner and Taylor for a 74-70 edge. However, the Warriors were unable to stop two of the NSIC's top scorers in the frame as Trevon Evans and Drew Guebert carried the home team to victory. The duo combined for 58 of the Cougars' 84 points on the night, including all 14 of the Sioux Falls points in the second OT.
The Cougars owned a decisive 46-34 rebounding advantage on their home floor, including 12 offensive boards which led to 12 second-chance points.
After splitting the season series, Winona State falls to 11-14 (8-11 NSIC) while Sioux Falls improves to 16-9 (11-8).
The Warriors conclude their final road trip of the regular season with another chance at a season sweep at Southwest Minnesota State University on Saturday evening at 6 p.m.
