Winona State Announces Home Contest Policies

Winona, Minn. -  Winona State University is preparing to conduct their first on-campus NCAA athletic events in nine months, as the Warrior women's basketball team is set to host the University of Minnesota Duluth on Jan. 2 and 3, with both contests tipping off at 2pm. 

The following policies will be in place for on-campus Winona State athletics events occurring in January and early February, which includes Warrior men's and women's basketball home contests: 

- No fans will be in attendance for contests in McCown Gymnasium.  Contests can be viewed via the HBC 25 Live Stream and/or followed on campus radio at KQAL.org:

- Only essential game management personnel will be present in the facility.  This includes statisticians, score table workers, athletic training staff and related roles.  All employees and volunteers must follow Winona State University COVID-19 protocols. 

- A limited number of Media Credentials are available for media seeking to cover Warrior events.  All media should contact Peter Watkins, Director of Athletic Communications at: pwatkins@winona.edu no later than 24 hours prior to the contest which the media is seeking to attend.   

- Credentialed media shall be considered Tier 3 individuals per NCAA SSI protocol.  The most recent Resocialization of Collegiate Sport: Developing Standards for Practice & Competition, Second Edition (Updated) is available for review at this link.  Tier 3 individuals will observe universal masking and physical distancing at all times and will not interact with Tier 1 or Tier 2 individuals at any time. 

- For all Winona State away contests, fans, families and followers of Warrior teams are strongly recommended to contact the host NSIC institution to review the host institution fan and attendance policies.  Each NSIC institution is responsible for establishing and monitoring attendance policies in accordance to campus, local government and state guidelines, which vary between NSIC members. 

The current protocol and restrictions which apply to intercollegiate athletic events at Winona State University are subject to change.
