BISMARK, N.D.- Winona State University is playing its best basketball at the right time of the year. It wasn't easy on Saturday night, but the Warriors completed the final leg of their NSIC North trip with an 86-83 victory at UMary – standing as Winona State's first two-game conference road sweep of the season.
WSU has won seven of its last nine and 11 of its last 15 overall. The Warriors' last three losses have each come in overtime.
Overall, the Warriors improve to 14-10 (11-7 NSIC) while sending UMary to a record of 11-13 (6-12 NSIC).
Caleb Wagner led the way for Winona State with a game-high 27 points while dishing out seven assists. The senior guard shot 18-36 from the field over the weekend sweep.
Wagner dug WSU out of a second-half hole by scoring eight straight points near the midway point of the frame.
Kevion Taylor chipped in 21 points – scoring over 20 points for the 10th time in his last 13 contests. Andrea Lo Biondo also added 16 points on 4-6 shooting from beyond the arc.
It was one of the more balanced scoring games of the year for WSU as Luke Martens and Devin Whitelow combined for 16 points as well.
The Warriors shot 48 percent overall and 42 percent from three-point land, eclipsing their magic number of 10 triples in a game for the 23rd time this season.
It was a three-pointer by Taylor at the 8:09 mark of the second half that gave the Warriors the lead for good. Winona State built as much as an eight-point lead in the final minutes before the defense made a stand to hold off the Marauders late.
The Warriors return to McCown Gymnasium next weekend for their final homestand of the season to host Sioux Falls and SMSU in Winona.
