Warriors win streak halted in Tuesday split

Riding a season best three game winning streak coming into today, the Warriors kept it going in their opener by defeating Indiana (PA) 10-2 in five innings. The streak then came to an end with a 3-2 loss in a battle with No. 24 Southern Indiana.

With the split the Warriors now move to 9-6 on the young season.

Winona State used the long ball to their advantage against the Crimson Hawks, using it to score eight of their 10 runs.

Libby Neveau opened the scoring up for WSU with a three-run shot to give the Warriors the 3-0 lead heading into the second inning.

Both teams scored a run in the second, with WSU's coming off an RBI double from Alison Nowak.

The Warriors scored five runs over the next two innings off an Ann Smolenski homer in the third and an Alexis Kelsey blast in the fourth. The Warriors scored one more run off an error in the fourth to give them a 10-1 lead.

Alyssa Van Valey (2-1) went the full five innings and allowed just six hits while striking out four to get her second win of the year.

Winona State kept the long ball trend going in the second game. Libby Neveau hit her second homer of the day to put the Warriors up 1-0 after one.

Rylee Stout then hit a longball to left center to double the Warriors lead to 2-0 after three.

The Warriors then went cold, failing to record a hit over the final four innings. USI scored three in the bottom of the fifth to take the one run victory.

Jordyn Kleman (4-4) allowed eight hits and struck out four in the loss.

 Neveau went 3-for-5 on the day with two home runs and four RBI's.

Winona State gets right back at it again tomorrow as they face Ashland at 1:30 p.m., followed by Northwood at 3:45 p.m.
