The Winona State softball team opened their Florida trip Sunday with a 6-1 loss to Lewis and an 8-0 win over Bloomfield.
The Warriors found themselves down 1-0 early in their game against Lewis before
Libby Neveau hit a homer to center field to tie the game up in the second.
Lewis would score three runs in the bottom of the second and two more in the fourth to close the game out.
The Warriors would outhit the Flyers 7-5, but WSU left 10 runners on base in the game, compared to just two for Lewis.
Ann Smolenski went 2-for-3 at the plate while
Rylee Stout went 2-for-4.
Jordyn Kleman (3-3) would take the loss for the Warriors.
Alyssa Van Valey was a bright spot for WSU retiring all six batters she faced over the final two innings of play.
The second game saw
Liz Pautz (2-1) have one of the best performances of her career, allowing just one hit over five innings of work while striking out 11.
The Warriors got on the board right off the bat, going up 1-0 off an
Alexis Kelsey RBI double.
After a scoreless second inning, WSU came alive in the third.
Katie Kolb ground rule double to open the inning was followed by RBI's from
Rylee Stout and Ali Nowak. Kelsey then put the icing on the cake with a 2-run home run to give the Warriors a 5-1 lead.
Libby Neveau would score on an error to give the Warriors a five run lead after three.
Brianna Luciano picked up the first RBI of her career with a single in the fourth, and Nowak would close the game with an RBI single in the fifth.
Ali Nowak went 3-for-3 in the game with two runs and two RBI's while
Alexis Kelsey went 2-for-2 with three RBI's.
The Warriors out hit the bears 11-1 in the game.
Winona State has no time to rest as they face Truman State tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. and University of Missouri-St. Louis at 3:45 p.m.
