Cyndy Jones (Schubbe) has held the record for the most career wins in Winona State softball history. Her title of winningest WSU pitcher of all time fell today, as senior
Jordyn Kleman notched the 86th win of her career in a 5-1 victory over Southwest Minnesota State. Kleman has re-wrote the record books in her time at Winona State, and currently has the second most victories among active players in all of DII softball.
Fellow senior
Katie Kolb also notched a career mark when she hit a single in the fifth inning of game one to get the 200th hit of her impressive career. Kolb, one of the most consistant and effective players in Winona State history, becomes just the 19th player in Winona State history with 200 hits under her belt.
After an eventful game one, Winona State used a two-run fourth inning to pull out a 2-1 victory in game two of the double-header.
With the sweep WSU moves to 19-6 (8-4 NSIC) and Southwest Minnesota State falls to 16-8 (7-3 NSIC).
Game 1
The opening game of the doubleheader started out slow, with neither team scoring in the first three innings. Freshman
Sam Keller decided to change that in the fourth, however, as she opened the inning with a solo home run to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead.
After the Mustangs got a run back in the bottom of the fourth,
Abbie Hlas knocked in
Katie Kolb with an RBI double in the top of the fifth to give Winona State a 2-1 lead.
Winona State added a few insurance runs in the third, as Hlas hit a 2 RBI triple to score both Kolb and
Madison Meduna. Hlas then stole home a few plays later to give the Warriors their fifth and final run of the game.
Jordyn Kleman (12-3) was electric in her milestone win, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out nine.
Kolb and Hlas each went 3-for-4 at the plate for the game while Hlas had three RBI's.
Game 2
SMSU got things going right away in the second game, scoring the opening run of the game on a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the first.
Following three scoreless innings to open the game, WSU scored two in the fourth on home runs by both
Abbie Hlas and
Sam Keller to go up 2-1.
Freshman
Emilee Erickson held the Mustangs hitless in innings 4-6 to keep the WSU lead in tact. Kleman came in for Erickson in the bottom of the seventh and struck the final two batters out to secure the 2-1 win for the Warriors.
In the first start of her career, Erickson (1-0) went 6.1 innings and allowed just one run on five hits with three strikeouts. Kleman (S, 2) notched her second save of the year.
Six separate Warriors managed to get a hit in game two, while Hlas and Keller had the team's only RBI's.
Winona State will look to continue their chase for an NSIC regular season title as they face Bemidji State in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 17 in Winona. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
