Warriors close out season with runner up finish at NSIC Tournament

Sioux Falls, S.D. - The Winona State University Tennis team closed out one of their most successful seasons in recent memory with a runner up finish at the NSIC Tournement held at the Match Pointe Center in Sioux Falls, S.D. WSU avenged a defeat earlier in the season to MSU-Moorhead by defeating them 4-3 to reach the championship. Waiting for the Warrior's in the championship was the conference powerhouse Augustana, who went on to defeat Winona State 4-0 in the match.

In the semi-final match against the Dragons, Winona State came out hot, with the doubles teams of Beth Murman/Audrey Delich (6-1) and Rachel Kelly and Rina Niehoff (6-2) taking down their opponents to gain the important doubles point. After wins by Rachel Kelly (7-5, 6-2) and Rina Niehoff (6-3, 6-1) at #2 and #3 singles both teams were locked at three apiece. Brooke Jorgensen came up huge in the final match, getting a 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 win at #5 singles to take Winona State to the NSIC Championship match for the first time since 2017.

In the championship, Augustana took control early, winning at #1 and #3 doubles to gain the doubles point. Augie then defeated the Warriors at #1, #5, and #6 singles to clinch the 4-0 victory.

The Warriors finish their season at 13-4 (10-2 NSIC).
