Winona State women's basketball dominates Minot State to extend winning streak

WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State women's basketball team jumped to an early and convincing lead to rout Minot State, 86-55, and complete their second-straight weekend sweep and to extend their winning streak to four games.
 
The Warriors opened the game with an impressive start offensively in the first quarter, led by four Caitlin Riley 3s. WSU shot 53.2% from the field and 55.6% from downtown to take a 29-8 lead after the first frame.
 
Minot State had no answer for Winona State in the first half as the Warriors took a commanding 50-23 lead at the break. The Warriors shot 21-33 (63.6%) from the field and held the Beavers to just 31% from the floor in the half.
 
Winona State continued their dominance in the second half and the reserves closed out the whole fourth quarter for WSU on their way to an 86-55 convincing victory over Minot State.
 
For the game, the Warriors shot 0.548 from the field and hit 10 of their 26 3-pointers. Winona State passed for 25 assists while only turning the ball over nine times. Defensively, WSU held Minot State to 34.4% shooting and forced 10 Beaver turnovers.
 
For Minot State, Calli Delsman led the way with 15 points and Amber Stevahn added 14 of her own. The Beavers went 7-22 from 3-point land knocked in four of their five free-throw attempts.
 
Individually for Winona State, Riley led all scorers with 20 points while knocking down six 3-pointers. Taylor Hustad poured in 18 points on 9-11 shooting, and Emma Fee was perfect from the field, sinking all eight shots en route to her 17 points. Emily Kieck contributed with a game-high eight assists to go along with her two buckets. All 11 players contributed to the scoring column for WSU.
 
The Warriors (11-9, 8-8 NSIC) are now winners of four-straight games and have climbed up to fourth in the NSIC South. Winona State will hit the road next weekend to play at Augustana on Friday, Feb. 4 and then at Wayne State on Saturday, Feb. 5.
