WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State University men's basketball team rebounded from a slow start to notch a 83-68 victory over visiting Viterbo University on Monday, Nov. 28 in McCown Gymnasium, home of WNB Financial Court.
Connor Dillon led Winona State in scoring with 21 points, while
Connor Drew also reached double digits with 18.
Owen King ran the Warrior show offensively for head coach
Todd Eisner, handing out a season-high eight assists, including six in the first half.
Ty Borowski came off the bench to spark WSU, scoring 11 points and collecting three helpers. Borowski was a perfect 3-for-3 from the foul line and connected on a pair of 3-pointers.
Viterbo started strong in the contest, scoring the first nine points of the game. Following a Warrior time out, WSU's
Connor Drew connected on a three pointer to break the seal and the Warriors would quickly catch up to the V-Hawks. The response was thanks in large part to Borowski, who hit a triple at the 7:28 mark of the first half, giving Winona State their first lead of the game at 14-13, an advantage they would not relinquish the rest of the way.
After taking a 42-28 lead into the locker room at the break, Winona State kept the V-Hawks at bay for the duration of the evening, using a deep Warrior bench to maintain a high-tempo pace in the win. WSU forced Viterbo into 15 turnovers and held a slight edge in rebounding at 35-34.
As a team, WSU was 28-of-64 shooting from the floor, a 48.3% clip. Winona State connected on 15-of-19 free throws in the game, led by
Connor Drew who was 7-of-8 from the charity stripe.
With the victory, Winona State improves to 5-1 on the season and owns a 1-1 record on home court. The Warriors return to NSIC action on Thursday, Dec. 1 when they face nationally-ranked Minnesota State - Mankato at home. The Warriors and Mavericks are set for a 7:30 p.m. tip off.
