ORLANDO, Fla. – The Winona State University women's tennis team wrapped up their spring break trip with a convincing 6-1 victory over North Carolina Wesleyan College to finish the week in Florida with a 3-1 record.
The Warriors started with a win by forfeit at No. 3 doubles as the Lady Bishops were unable to field all three doubles teams in the lineup.
Beth Murman and
Sara Anderson worked quickly to win 6-2 at No. 2 doubles and clinch the doubles point for Winona State.
WSU earned their first singles point at No. 6 singles with a win by forfeit. Murman came out victorious in a three-set thriller at second singles, dropping the first set 3-6 but bouncing back to win the second set and win the tiebreaker 10-5 in the third.
Rina Niehoff,
Sara Anderson, and
Brooke Jorgensen all won convincingly in their singles matches to secure the victory.
Rachel Kelly battled at the top singles position, but dropped a very close 4-6, 4-6 contest. Winona State won the match by a team score of 6-1.
The Warriors (10-3, 5-1 NSIC) will trek back to Minnesota and next be in action on March 18-19 against conference opponents, St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth. WSU has five regular-season contests before the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships begin on April 23.
