WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is pleased to announce the makeup of its Executive Board for the 2023-24 academic year.
Mitchell Buerkle (men's cross country) was voted to serve as President, and Kaylee Beyer (women's cross country, track & field) has been chosen to serve as the group's Vice President. Rounding out the leadership group are Joe Demro (football), Regan Feit (track & field), Ty Gavin (football), Lydia Lange (volleyball), Maddie Moe (tennis), Mattie Schimenz (women's basketball), and McKenna Taylor (women's cross country, track & field).
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has three main purposes: to serve as the student-athlete voice to administration, vote on proposed legislation, and help coordinate community outreach opportunities for the athletics department. The initiatives identified for the current academic year include raising funds to benefit Winona Health mammography department and Make-A-Wish; coordinating activities for children in the community; and supporting other Winona-based groups by non-financial means.
SAAC will once again be hosting the Zombie Crawl for elementary-aged kids and younger on Sunday, October 15, from 2:00 p.m – 4:00 p.m. on Maxwell Field in Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium. McCown Gymnasium will serve as the indoor location in the event of inclement weather. Children are encouraged to dress up in their Halloween costumes and participate in fun activities set up by each of the Warrior teams. Healthy snacks will be provided.
On October 31, all Warrior student-athletes will be going door-to-door to collect non-perishable food to be donated to Winona Volunteer Services and Warrior Cupboard in hopes of helping those dealing with food insecurity. Lastly, "Warrior Strong" merchandise will be sold at all the Warriors home contests during the month of October, with proceeds going to Winona Health mammography department.
