Winona State Alumni Spotlight : William Braun

WINONA, Minn. - William Braun was a member of the Winona State Men's Swimming team in 1968 and 1969. He qualified for the NAIA Championships in 1968. Braun earned his bachelor's degree in Elementary Education in 1971. He is currently the Superintendent of Schools in the Eastern Maine Area School System.
 
What was your favorite sports memory during your time at WSU?
Swimming in the East-West meet in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
 
What would you say is your greatest athletic or academic accomplishment during your time at WSU?
Being part of the men's swimming team and participating in the NAIA Championships.
 
How has your WSU athletics experience been influential throughout your life?
It provided me with numerous opportunities, and it pushed me to strive to be the best at what I do.
 
Please share any recent professional or personal accomplishments.
I recently completed 50 years in education. I have held positions as a teacher, principal, and superintendent during my time in education. I have also served on many professional committees appointed by the Superintendent Association or the Governor.
 
What is your current occupation, and what are your career goals?
I was retired, but returned to work as a Superintendent. I have now been serving as a Superintendent for the past 33 years. My career goal is to continue to be actively involved in the field of education.
 
What advice would you give to current WSU student-athletes?
Use the drive and fortitude you have used as an athlete and apply it to your future employment. Additionally, use your competitiveness to work hard and move forward!

Teaching is a wonderful opportunity to see children grow and develop!
