NSIC Weekend : Men's Basketball

MANKATO, Minn. - The Winona State University men's basketball team will play the last regular-season road game of the season on Thursday, Feb. 16, traveling to Minnesota State for a 5:30pm tip off in Mankato. 
 
The Warriors are 14-11 this season and hold a 9-11 record within the NSIC, putting them seventh in the NSIC South and one game out of the NSIC postseason with two games left to play.  A Winona State win against the Mavericks is the first  - and most important - step for WSU to move up the ladder in the NSIC South standings and into the postseason picture.

The contest will take place at the Taylor Center in Mankato, Minn. 

WINONA STATE STORYLINES

The Warriors are 14-11 overall and sit at 9-11 within the NSIC.

Winona State averages 69.0 points per game offensively while giving up 68.7 points per game to opponents as well.

WSU holds the second-best turnover margin in the league, averaging 11.0 forced turnovers to 8.7 of their own for a 2.33 margin.

Connor Dillon leads WSU with 18.3 points per game and 35.9 minutes per game. Dillon earned the NSIC Player of the Week honor in the South Division two weeks ago.

Connor Drew adds 12.1 points per game for Winona State.

Luke Martens is the third Warrior in double figures, notching 11.7 points each game to go along with a team-best 6.4 boards per game.

James Kelley has hit double-digits in five of his last six games, including a Warrior career-high 17 on Jan. 27.


MINNESOTA STATE STORYLINES

The Mavericks are 16-10 overall and 10-10 in the NSIC; most recently, MSU lost to Augustana, 87-59.

MSU scores 77.2 points per game offensively and allows 73.3 points per game to opponents.

Malik Willingham leads Minnesota State in scoring, averaging 18.2 ppg.

Two other Mavericks average double-digits in per-game scoring; Trevor Moore (14.7) & Kyreese Willingham (13.4)

Kyreese Willingham leads MSU in rebounding at 6.3 rpg.

Matt Margenthaler is in his 21st season with the Mavericks.


WARRIOR NOTABLES
The Warriors were selected 10th overall and seventh in the NSIC South by coaches around the league.

Former Warrior standout Caleb Wagner joined Eisner's staff in the off-season.
