CLERMONT, Fla.. - The Winona State University softball team went 1-1 on their final day of the 2023 Warrior spring break trip competing in a pair of one-run games in Clermont, Florida.
Winona State battled back from a 2-1 deficit to beat Alderson Broaddus 4-3 and fell in the second game to host Embry-Riddle, 4-3.

Abbie Hlas produced a stellar three-hit performance in the circle and helped herself at the plate in going 2-for-3 with two runs scored as Winona State earned their eighth win of the 2023 spring trip.
Winona State scored early and took a 1-0 lead in the first inning but the Battlers scored a trio of runs in the fourth frame to claim a 3-1 edge after taking advantage of a Warrior error and wild pitch.
However, Winona State's
Logan Anderson drove in
Ashlee Chantos and
Macy Brodin to tie the game at 3-3. One inning later,
Marissa Mullen drove in Hlas for the fourth and final Warrior run, moving the scoreboard to 4-3. Hlas would retire the side in the top of the seventh inning and deliver the Warrior win.
WSU would finish with four runs on eight hits while committing two errors. Alderson Broaddus scored three runs on three hits and had one miscue in the field. The spring break matchup marked the first-ever meeting of the two programs.
Embry-Riddle 4, Winona State 3
Winona State scored two runs late but the host Eagles scored two runs even later to squeak by the Warriors 4-3 to complete the WSU 2023 spring break trip.
Embry-Riddle scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning to go up 2-0 and held a lead over Winona State at 2-1 until the seventh inning.
In the top of the seventh,
Abbie Hlas earned an RBI when she drove in
Corinna Loshek and scored herself moments later on an ERU error in the outfield to take the first WSU lead in the game, 3-2.
Unfortunately for WSU, the Eagles were able to load the bases in the bottom of the seventh and then score a pair of runs to claim the victory, 4-3.
Winona State scored three runs on seven hits and committed one error.
Abby Smith went 6 & 1/3 innings in the circle for Winona State, striking out two and conceding four runs, just two of which were earned. ERU scored four times on seven hits and had two errors in the contest.
Winona State (15-6 overall, 0-0 NSIC) will travel next weekend to Pittsburg, Kansas for five games across March 17-19.
