Warrior Game Day: Men's Basketball

WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State University men's basketball team looks to continue their win streak with a contest against Northern State University at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16 at Wachs Arena in Aberdeen, S.D. 

Winona State (16-9, 11-8 NSIC) will face Northern State University (10-14, 8-10 NSIC) in their final road game of the regular season.   

The matchup will be the second time the two teams have faced off in the 2023-24 season, with the Wolves winning a hard-fought contest on Saturday, January 6, 77-75. Last season Northern State reached the NCAA Central Regional, losing to Emporia State in the first round. Most recently, NSU is coming off a win against Minnesota Crookston 83-68. 

WINONA STATE STORYLINES  

  • WSU is 16-9 on the year, 11-8 in NSIC play. 

  • WSU is shooting an impressive 46.0% as a team from the floor.    

  • The Warriors are averaging 71.4 points/game and conceding 69.5 points per outing.     

  • Leading the Warriors on the season is Connor Dillon with 21.6 points per game.    

  • Olumide Adelodun leads the team in rebounding at 5.9 rpg.   

  • Brock Voigt became the most recent Winona State player to reach the career 1,000-point mark, scoring 20 points at Minot State to the 1,000-point mark on the dot.   

  • Connor Dillon earned a spot in the NSIC's Shining Five after last week's 2-0 outing. 

  • Dillon played 37.2 minutes per game last weekend. 

  • Devon Fielding had one of his most impressive weekends averaging 12.5 ppg, 2 rpg, and 1.5 apg. 

  • Winona State has tallied more steals than their opponents - 122 (4.9 pg) for WSU vs. 113 (4.5) for opponents, but the Warriors block fewer shots 66 (2.6) than the competition 75 (3.0)   

  • Heading into the season, Eisner's all-time coaching record stands at 531-263, including a 115-97 Winona State ledger.    

Northern State STORYLINES   

  • The Wolves enter the weekend at 10-14 overall and 8-10 in the NSIC.    

  • Northern State enters the weekend ranked 10th in the NSIC, looking to finish earn a home game for the first round of playoffs. 

  • Winona State holds a 6-12 record vs. NSU dating back to January 2, 2009.     

  • WSU came just short against NSU earlier this year 75-77, back on January 6 this year.     

  • NSU is 3-2 in their last five games.   

  • The Wolves won 83-68 against Minnesota Crookston in their most recent action.      

  • As a team, NSU is shooting 44.4% from the floor and 76.8% at the line.      

  • NSU hits 32.9% of their three-point attempts.     

  • Jacksen Moni is averaging 21.4 points per game and 8.3 rebounds per game for the Wolves.     

  • Saul Phillips is in his 5th season as head coach for the Wolves.
