WARRIORS FALL ON THE ROAD TO THE VIKINGS

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.- The Warriors men's basketball team fell 84-68 on the road to the Augustana Vikings.

Winona State battled in a back-and-forth first half that saw them knock down eight three pointers on their way to a 44-40 deficit at the break. The second half was controlled by the Vikings as they outscored the Warriors 40-28 to win the contest 84-68.
 
How it Happened:
WSU struck first with an and-one tip-in by Alessandro Tonelli put the Warriors up 3-0 at the 18:27 mark. A Ryan Heise three-ball kept the squad in front at 11-7 with 14:07 left in the first half. Back-to-back three-pointers by the Vikings Tameron Ferguson and Jack Hastreiter gave AUGIE their first lead of the game at 13-11 with 12:55 remaining in the half. WSU quickly retook the lead behind two three-pointers in a row by Tyler Borowski giving the Warriors a 17-13 edge at the 11:46 mark. Tyler Mason kept the three-point barrage going with one of his own at 10:47 keeping WSU in front at 20-16. Jaron Crews buried two three-balls on back-to-back possession keeping a small 26-22 advantage to WSU. After the Vikings took a 30-28 lead, Aidan Bardic strung five points in a row to grant Winona State a 33-30 edge at 4:45. AUGIE ended the half on a strong 14-4 run capped off by a Caden Hinker three-pointer to give the Vikings a 44-40 lead at the break.

Heise scored the first four points of the half for the Warriors to keep the game within reach at 50-44 AUGIE at the 17:19 mark. Bennett Fried hit a pair of free throws, granting the Vikings a double-digit advantage at 60-49 with 11:13 to play. Bardic drilled a three-ball at 10:05 making it 62-52 Vikings. Two more buckets from Bardic kept the deficit at 10 points at 69-59 with 5:59 remaining. Mason connected on a jumper at 5:01 putting the game at 71-61 AUGIE. Caleb Johnson entered the scoresheet with a three-pointer at 0:43 ending the game at 84-68 Vikings.

Winona State will look to rebound as they travel to Wayne, Nebraska to take on Wayne State. Gametime is scheduled for Saturday, December 20 at 1:00pm.
