MEN’S BASKETBALL HOSTS HOME OPENER AGAINST MINNESOTA STATE AND TRAVELS TO ST. CLOUD STATE

WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State men's basketball team continues their 2025-26 regular season with two NSIC matchups, including their first home game of the 2025-26 season.

The Warriors will host Minnesota State on Thursday, December 4 at 5:30pm. WSU is 63-96 all time against the Mavericks with the Warriors losing last season's matchup 76-52 in Mankato, Minn. Winona State will then travel to play St. Cloud State on Saturday, December 6 at 2:00pm. WSU is 53-104 all-time against SCSU with the Warriors falling in a close 70-65 contest to the Huskies last year.

Winona State Notes:
  • Winona State enters the week 1-5 after a pair of losses to #18 Florida Southern and Saint Leo University down in Florida.
  • The Warriors enter the 2025-26 season ranked ninth in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll. 
  • Head Coach Todd Eisner is in his 11th season at the helm of the program. He is 159-123 during his tenure with the Warriors. 
  • Winona State enters the holiday week averaging 62.7 ppg and giving up 79.3 ppg.
  • WSU is 42.4% (136-of-321) from the field and 26.9% (32-of-119) from three-point range. Winona State leads the NSIC in free throw percentage at a clip of 80.0% (72-of-90).
  • Ryan Heise is leading the Warriors offensively with 13.8 points per contest on 30-of-56 shooting (53.6%) from the field. He adds 5.8 boards a game.
  •  Gavyn Hurley is right behind, averaging 12.8 points a game on an efficient 58.8% (30-of-51) shooting and a team-leading 6.0 rpg.
  • Tyler Mason averages 9.5 points per game and a team-high 3.2 assists per game while Aidan Bardic adds 8.3 ppg.
  • Following this week, the Warriors will play at home hosting the University of Sioux Falls in an NSIC showdown on Saturday, December 13 at 5:00pm. The following day, WSU will host SMSU at 2:00pm in another NSIC test.
 Minnesota State Notes:
  • MSU is off to a fast start going 6-3 during their first stretch of the 2025-26 season. The Mavericks picked up a 119-80 win over Waldorf in their last contest on November 29.
  • The Mavericks enter the 2025-26 season ranked third in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll. 
  • Head Coach Matt Margenthaler is in his 25th year with the team, compiling a record of 514-226 in his tenure. He has led the Mavericks to the NCAA Division II National Championship in 2023-24.
  • Minnesota State enters the weekend averaging 79.1 points per game while giving up 69.6 points per game.
  • Malcolm Jones is leading the offensive charge, averaging a team-best 15.4 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.
  • Other players averaging double digit points are Caden Krikman (11.3), Arhman Lewis (10.7), and Traijan Sain (10.4).
  • Following the game against the Warriors, the Mavericks will face Concordia-St. Paul on December 6 at 1:00pm.
     
St. Cloud State Notes:
  • The Huskies are currently 3-3 on the year after winning their last matchup 83-68 against Minnesota Crookston on November 29.
  • Head Coach Quincey Henderson is in his 4th season leading the Huskies men's basketball team. He has compiled a record of 45-50 in his short time at the helm of the program.
  • St. Cloud State comes into the weekend averaging 71.8 points per game while giving up 69.3 points per contest.
  • Luke Winkel looks to continue his solid start to the season, averaging 18.6 points and 2.5 assists per game.
  • Other Huskies averaging double figures are Bob Griechen (11.7) and Wyatt Hawks (11.0). Hawks leads the squad with 8.2 rpg.
  • Before taking on the Warriors, the Huskies will play #21 Concordia-St. Paul on Wednesday, December 3 at 5:30pm.
