WINONA, Minn. - The Winona State men's basketball team snapped their four-game winning streak in a 62-54 home loss to the Augustana Vikings.
The Warriors offense got off to a slow start falling behind 28-22 at halftime. A late comeback attempt was unsuccessful as the Warriors fell by eight points.
How it Happened:
Winona State jumped out to a 9-2 lead at the 15:12 mark behind five points from
Ryan Heise. The Vikings stormed back to take a 14-9 advantage after an Amari Westmore-Vendiola layup with 10:27 left in the first half. Augie's Tanner Te Slaa buried a three-ball at 6:50 to make it 21-13 Vikings. Five points from Heise cut the deficit down to 21-19 at 4:44. Augustana closed the half with a Caden Hinker layup at 0:27 to make it 28-22 Augie at the break.
An 8-0 Augie run capped off by a Tameron Ferguson three-pointer gave the Vikings their largest lead of the game up to this point at 36-22 with 16:34 remaining. A layup by
Gavyn Hurley cut the game to 38-28 at the 14:09 mark. Heise connected on a layup keeping the game at a 10-point deficit at 45-35 with 8:36 to play. A quick 7-0 run by the Warriors sparked by an
Aidan Bardic layup made it 49-42 Vikings at 5:46. A pair of free throws by
Alessandro Tonelli and a layup from Hurley diced the Warriors deficit to 54-48 at the 1:35 mark. The Vikings went eight-for-eight from the charity stripe to end the game at 62-54.

First, the Warriors travel to Southwest Minnesota State University to face the Mustangs on Thursday, February 12 with tipoff slated for 7:30pm. Then, WSU will head to the University of Sioux Falls to take on the Cougars on Saturday, February 14 with gametime set for 5:00pm.
