WINONA STATE ATHLETICS SPRING BREAK: WEDNESDAY, MARCH 11

WINONA, Minn. – Winona State Athletics Spring Break: Wednesday, March 11th.
 
WOMEN'S GOLF
Winona State sits in second after the first round of the Warrior Vegas Invitational, hosted by WSU in Henderson, Nev. The Warriors shot a 318 (+30) in the opening round to trail UBC Okanagan (+20).
 
Kessa Mara led WSU with a 76 (+4), which featured a pair of birdies, to be tied for second individually. Megan Young carded a seven-over par, 79. Lindsey Lund and Georgia Volley were right behind with an 81 and 82.
 
 
MEN'S GOLF
The Warriors finished round one of the Warrior Vegas Invitational tied for third place, 10 strokes off the leader, UBC Okanagan. WSU shot a 295 (+10) as a team and had two golfers under par.
 
Luke Maas and Peyton Coahran each shot rounds of 70 (-2) to be one stroke off the individual leaders and in a tie for fourth overall. Javier Ramos Casariego and Tyler Gandrud closed out the top four for Winona State with rounds of seven-over par, 79.
 
 
BASEBALL
Wayne State (6) – Winona State (2)
In the final game of their 2026 Spring Break trip, the Warriors were unable to overcome a four-run third inning by Wayne State University. Wayne State tallied the game's first four runs before Winona State answered on an Easton Arendt solo homer in the fourth. Wayne State added another in the fifth, then Winona State scored as Connor Weed drove in Dylan Harer on an RBI single in the seventh. Wayne State scored another in the eighth to bring the final score to 6-2.
 
Jaran Schwantz took the loss after pitching 2.0 innings in relief and allowing four runs on four hits. Arendt capped on an impressive trip by going 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored in today's game. In total, WSU tallied five hits and collected one walk.
 
 
SOFTBALL
WSU (11) – STA (2)
The Warriors gave up the first run of the game but exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the first to blow the game wide open. WSU tallied six hits as 11 batters reached base in the first inning. Braelee Jodarski hit a solo shot, and Lila McNeill collected a two RBI triple and an RBI double in the same inning. The Warriors added a run in each of the second and third innings to run away with an 11-2 run-rule victory in five innings.
 
Izzy Howe started in the circle and went 3.0 innings while allowing just one run on one hit to earn the win. Anna Zaruba and Maddie Parker each pitched an inning in relief for the Warriors. McNeill and Jodarski each went 2-2 at the plate, while 10 Warrior hits were scattered among eight batters.
 
WSU (10) – FTU (6)
Facing another top-25 ranked opponent, Winona State gave up three runs in the bottom of the second to trail early on against Florida Tech. The Warriors answered right back, scoring five runs in the third coming off a Bryn Elsenpeter two RBI double and back-to-back homers by Indigo Fish and Taylor Bloohm to give WSU a 5-3 lead.
 
Alyssa Woelfel added to the home run party in the fourth, knocking a two-run shot out of the park to extend WSU's advantage on the scoreboard. Elsenpeter capped off the longball excitement with a two-run blast in the sixth to give Winona State a 9-3 lead on their fourth home run of the game. The Warriors added a run in the seventh, then Florida Tech hit a three-run blast, but that was it as Winona State held on for the 10-6 win.
 
Ashley Theisen picked up her fourth win on the week after pitching 5.1 innings in relief and striking out six batters. Three Warriors collected multiple hits and Elsenpeter led the way with four RBIs in the contest.
