WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State Warrior softball team swept the Minot State Beavers in a doubleheader with score of 8-4 and 10-2.
The Winona State softball team was able to defeat the Minot State Beavers to end their weekend road trip and remain undefeated in conference play with a NSIC record of 8-0 and overall record of 29-4.
Game One: WSU (8) – MISU (4)
Winona State was able to handle the Beavers in game one with pitcher
Izzy Howe starting the game and striking out four batters in her two innings pitched.
Ashley Theisen would finish the final five innings and secure her fifth win of the season. Off the back of an
Ava Smith two RBI double, WSU would take an early lead in the top of the first inning.
After some back and forth offense,
Lila McNeill would walk in a run for Winona State, along with a
Bryn Elsenpeter, two RBI single and a Smith ground out that would advance McNeill to home plate, making the score 7-3 going into the bottom of four. Elsenpeter would add an insurance run in the top of six with her second homer of the weekend. WSU finished the game with a score of 8-4.
Game Two: WSU (10) – MISU (2)
To start the second inning of game two,
Whitley Wischmeier would triple down the right field line which would score Ashley Chantos and give the Warriors an early 1-0 lead. Winona State would go on to score in every single inning for the remainder of the game. Elsenpeter would hit an RBI double in the third and Chantos would ground out but advance
Braelee Jodarski to home plate in the fourth.
Jaden Johnson would clear the bases on a three RBI double of her own in the fifth and she would get brought home by Jodarski in the next at bat.
Hannah Soderbeck brought the boom in the sixth inning with a solo shot home run to center field and the score would be 10-2 in the top of the seventh after a Wischmeier home run.
Jayda Berg would pitch all seven innings collecting three strikeouts and zero walks.
Winona State will be in action next on Friday, April 3rd at 12:00pm where they will face the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs in doubleheader fashion in Marshall, Minn.
