Brian Paulson

A former All-American at Winona State, Brian Paulson is in his third year as the Warriors’ head men’s golf coach.

Paulson, who put together one of the best careers in Winona State history, has made an immediate impact on the WSU squad as coach.

Five Warriors have earned all-NSIC honors in Paulson’s two seasons atop the program. Mitch Holm, Tyler Schmude and Alex Zeyen were all-league selections after the 2013-14 season while Holm and Zeyen also earned the honor during the 2012-13 campaign.

Winona State posted a fourth-place showing at the NSIC Championship in 2013-14 with three players finishing in the top 15.

Zeyen was also the individual medalist at the season-opening Bemidji State Invitational for the Warriors’ during Paulson’s rookie season as coach and at the Cardinal Open the following year.

Paulson is one of the most accomplished golfers in Winona State history, earning NAIA All-American honors three times during his playing career and being named an NCAA All-American after the 1992-93 season. Paulson was a NCAA National Qualifier in 1993 and 1994 and was the medalist at both the NAIA and NCAA District Championship in both 1993 and 1994.

He also won the conference championship in 1991 while leading the Warriors to four consecutive league titles.

An outstanding student as well, Paulson was a two-time Academic All-American while also participating in the Winona State symphonic wind ensemble and Jazz pep band.

Paulson is a member of both the Winona State and NSIC Athletic Halls of Fame.

Paulson is currently also an assistant golf professional at The Bridges Golf Course in Winona.
