One of the best post players in Winona State history, Michelle McDonald returns as a member of the WSU women's basketball coaching staff for the 2014-2015 season.
McDonald is in her first year as the graduate assistant coach.
She was a pivotal member of the Winona State women's basketball team from 2008 to 2012, breaking into the Warrior record books in several categories. She is currently fourth all-time in points (1,371), first all-time in field goal percentage (57.2), third all-time in rebounding (713), and first all-time in free throw percentage (82.2).
McDonald earned the Daktronics Women's Basketball All-Central Region Second Team selection in 2012 as well as the Women's Division II Bulletin All-American team and the WBCA Coachs' All-America team honorable mention. She earned NSIC all-conference first-team accolades in 2011 and 2012. She also received the 2012 NCAA Division II Academic All-America Of The Year award from the College Sports Information Directors of America.Â
During her career, McDonald helped lead the Warriors to two NCAA Division II tournament berths and an NSIC tournament championship. In 2009, she was a main contributor off the bench and helped carry Winona State (24-7, 15-5 NSIC) to their first ever NCAA tournament before losing in the first round to Fort Lewis.
Two years later in 2011, McDonald helped lead the Winona State (21-9, 14-8 NSIC) to their second NCAA tournament berth after leading WSU past Concordia-St. Paul 69-67 in the NSIC tournament championship game. She led the Warriors with 27 points in the contest to break them into the big dance, where they eventually fell to Metro State.
McDonald received her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and is currently pursuing her Master's Degree in Sports Management.Â
