Beckie Rolbiecki is entering her 15th season as head gymnastics coach in 2019-20, reestablishing a proud tradition of gymnastics at Winona State University.
Rolbiecki took over as head coach in 2005 to rebuild a program which had won two NAIA National Championships in 1985 and 1987. In just a short time Rolbiecki has brought the Warriors back to national competitions.
In 2019, she mentored a young team that saw Kelly Johnston earn All-American honors on the beam for the second time in three seasons. In 2017, she coached Eboni Jackson to first place at Nationals on floor exercise an All-American status on floor, beam and Al-Around. Johnston was named a Second Team All-American on beam, and Katie Pipp qualified for nationals as well that year.
In 2016, Rolbiecki coached Jackson to her first Jackson to her first All-Around National Championships. Jackson set the school record for best All-Around performance. The team finished fourth at the NCGA National Championships with 191.650 points, the best total every by a Warriors team. During the individual competition the Warriors had four athletes earn All-American honors. Rolbiecki was named the NCGA Coach of the Yer and the WIAC Coach of the Year.
The Warriors had a very successful 2015 campaign highlighted by setting the second-best team score in program history. Winona State set the 189.050 mark in a February 28 meeting over UW-Stout. The Warriors would go on to send three to the NCGA National Championships with all three athletes earning All-American honors. Jade Donaldson earned multiple All-American honors, earning first-team All-American in the floor exercise and second-team All-American in the all-around and the vault.
In 2014, three Warriors qualified for the NCGA National Championships. The Warriors were led by Donaldson taking fifth in the all-around competition and earning All-American honors.
Nine Warrior gymnasts qualified for the NCGA National Championship in 2013, with Jena Jondahl highlighting the performance with a runner-up finish on the vault. In all, six Warriors earned All-American honors at the event.
Seven Warriors earned a spot in the NCGA National Championship under Rolbiecki’s tutelage after the 2011-12 season, with Anna Gleason claiming All-American honors for the second consecutive season.
Winona State sent five gymnasts to the NCGA National Championship in 2010-11, where freshman Jondahl placed second in the nation on vault. Warriors Gleason and Heather Rummelein also earned All-American status at the national meet. Academically, senior Katie Gregory was named the WIAC Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete recipient.
The 2009-10 season was successful for Winona State both on and off the competition floor. The Warriors placed sixth as a team at the national meet, with Katie Gregory and Krystin Holody claiming individual All-American honors. Warrior junior Melissa Baudhuin earned Academic All-American honors while a trio of WSU student-athletes earned academic all-district recognition.
The 2008-09 Winona State gymnastics team returned to the NCGA National Championship. Led by Rolbiecki, the Warriors finished third at the WIAC/NCGA West Region Championships which were hosted by Winona State. The Warriors finished the season in fourth place at the national championships with seven All-Americans; three on the first-team and four on the second-team.
The Warriors had a gymnast (Eileen Strube) selected to the All-WIAC Gymnastics Team along with taking home the two top awards from the WIAC. A Warrior (Alexandra Nugent) was named the Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete which is a top academic award given to senior gymnasts in the WIAC. With her team’s performance, Rolbiecki earned her second WIAC Coach of the Year award.
The 2007-08 Warriors were ranked as high as number three nationally in the Division III Season Average Score (SAS) rankings which included three gymnasts who were ranked in the top 10 among the apparatus. Rolbiecki led the Warriors to a third place finish in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference/National Collegiate Gymnastics Association Western Regional. For their efforts in the regional, four Warriors received WIAC All-Conference honors. The third place finish helped qualify the Warriors for the NCGA national championships where the Warriors finished sixth in the team competition. At nationals, Rolbiecki had two gymnasts earn First Team All American honors and another gymnast earn Second Team All American honors.
Following the 2007-08 season two Warriors (Nugent and Strube) from the gymnastics team were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic Women's At-Large All-District V First Team. More academic recognition was awarded to the Warrior gymnastic team as a Warrior gymnast (Nugent) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Second Team Academic All-America Team. As a team, Rolbiecki’s gymnasts earned national honors for their cumulative GPA. The Warriors were ranked second on the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches Scholastic All-America Teams and Individuals with a team GPA of 3.7550. Twelve Warriors were named to the NACGC Scholastic All-America list. The 2008 season was the second consecutive time the Warriors, as a team, earned NACGC Scholastic All-America honors.
In 2006-07 the Warriors finished tied for fifth in the WIAC/NCGA regional. Rolbiecki sent four gymnasts to nationals with a Warrior (Strube) being named NCGA First Team All-American and NCGA Second Team All-American. Rolbiecki’s gymnastic team was ranked fourth on the NACGC Scholastic All-America list with a team GPA of 3.7079 which included twelve individual Warriors receiving NACGC Scholastic All-America honors.
In just her first year as head coach in 2005-06, Rolbiecki was awarded the WIAC Coach of the Year award as the Warriors finished with a season high score of 180.15. That same year Rolbiecki also coached 10 NACGC Academic All-Americans with three Warrior gymnasts qualifying for nationals.
Out of the gym Rolbiecki’s gymnasts set the example of true student-athletes. Rolbiecki has coached 45 Academic All-Americans.
Before taking over as head coach of the Winona State gymnastics team, Rolbiecki was an assistant gymnastics coach for the Warriors for six years. Rolbiecki was also the head gymnastics coach at Winona Senior High School for 18 years.
Rolbiecki returned to coach at her alma mater, Winona State University, where she graduated in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education.
Rolbiecki lives in Minnesota City with her husband Michael and has three children, Matthew, Daniel, and Anna.
