Travis Whipple enters his first year as Assistant Athletic Director at Winona State and his fourth year overall working for the department. Whipple also served as an Assistant Athletic Director from 2008-2011 before spending the 2011-12 academic year as an Assistant Commissioner of the Lone Star Conference in Dallas, Texas.
Under Whipple’s direction, Winona State’s external relations saw a wave of new developments. Winona State athletics has reached record totals in all three major revenue generating areas including fundraising, season ticket sales and corporate sponsorships. The revenue generating advancements have been supported by the addition of multiple strategic business processes being installed. Attendance has grown significantly for many of WSU's sports over the last two years. Warrior Rewards, an on-campus loyalty program launched for 2009-10, tripled student attendance in one year. Under Whipple's first two years leading the external relations department, corporate sponsorships doubled with a restructured sponsorship sales approach and advancements will continue with new creative ideas.
WSU has significantly expanded its radio, television and internet coverage. He also initiated a weekly radio and television show, which airs online and during contests. In 2009-10, WSU Athletics streamed live more than 80 games in seven sports which led to the creation of the Warrior Sports Network.
Since winonastatewarriors.com launched nearly two years ago, the site has grown exponentially in page views, unique visitors and revenue generated, and incorporates social-networking platforms Facebook, Twitter and YouTube into the department's online efforts
Whipple wrote the award winning DII Enhancement Grant which was selected by the NCAA to fund a position at Winona State. The Game Environment and Community Relations position created by the grant will help the entire department. The external relations advancements have also made way for two new state-of-the-art video display boards in McCown Gym.
Whipple earned both his bachelors and masters degrees from Winona State University. Travis has an undergraduate degree in Education and a Masters in Sports Management.
Prior to becoming an Assistant Athletic Director Whipple was a student-athlete and played men’s basketball, during that time he participated in three national championship games. Whipple was also a part of a run that led to 57 consecutive wins, two national championships, three NSIC regular season championships, three NSIC conference tournament championships, three regional championships.
