Kellogg

Matt Kellogg

Matt Kellogg was named head coach of the Winona State Warriors on January 9, 2018, following head coaching stops at the NCAA Division I, II and III levels.

Kellogg was the head coach at the University of North Dakota from 2013-16, a NCAA Division I program.  Prior to his time at UND, Kellogg served as the head coach at NCAA Division II Ferris State University. At FSU,  he inherited a 3-13-3 team in his first season, and helped lead the Bulldogs to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) tournament in each of his first three years from 2010-12. In his final year in Big Rapids, Kellogg guided Ferris State to a 9-7-3 record in 2012 and the GLIAC semifinals for just the second time in program history. Kellogg also spent one season as the head coach at Kalamazoo College.

In 2018, Winona State went 8-8-1 overall and 8-6-1 in NSIC play. The Warriors advanced to the NSIC postseason, eventually falling to Augustana University.  WSU was particularly dominant at home in 2018, owning a 5-2-1 mark on Maxwell Field. Seven of those victories came in shutout fashion, including four that came during a five-game winning streak.

The 2019 season saw Winona State battle through a series of injuries en route to a 7-11 mark and 6-9 NSIC slate. Winona State was 4-4 at home, and 11 of the Warriors' 18 games were decided by a single goal.

In 2021, Winona State found themselves on the wrong end of several one-goal contests, collecting a 4-12-1 record, 3-11-1 in NSIC play. Nine of the Warriors losses were by a one goal.

The veteran coach also has previous spots as assistant women's soccer coach and recruiting coordinator at a pair of NCAA Division I schools, Morehead State (Ky.) and the University of Kentucky.

In 2009, Kellogg's lone season at Morehead State, the Eagles captured the program's first-ever Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) regular season championship with a 5-0-3 conference record (8-7-4 overall).

Kellogg is a graduate of Butler University in Indianapolis, was a two-year letter winner on the soccer team.

He holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) National B License and a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Advanced National Goalkeeping Certificate.

Matt and Val Kellogg are proud parents to Gretchen and Wyatt, and the family resides in Winona.
