Balanced Warriors Earn 3-1 Victory Over Sioux Falls

WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State volleyball team returned home from a three-game road swing in winning fashion, downing Sioux Falls 3-1 Friday night in front of 719 people inside McCown Gym.

The Warriors had to recover after dropping the first game, bouncing back to claim the next three sets to earn the victory (23-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-23).

Taylor Goar had four kills in the first set to lead the Warriors, but USF's Emily Johnson recorded six to pace a Cougar attack that hit .387 to earn a first set victory 25-23.  The Warriors, meanwhile, hit .273 in the opening game.

Sioux Falls continued to hit for a high percentage in the second set (.343), committing just one error, but the Warriors were hotter, compiling 19 kills to just three errors for a blistering .432 clip. Goar had three kills in four points with a Kalyn Biever ace mixed in to help the Warriors jump out to a quick 6-2 advantage and a lead they would not relinquish en route to a 25-16 victory.

The third set was a sloppy one as the two teams combined for 15 errors and neither team hit better than .122, but the Warriors came away with a 25-19 victory thanks to four kills apiece from Lauren Kudronowicz and McKenna Larsen.

Six of Goar's match-high 16 kills came in the final set, helping the Warriors squeak out a 25-23 victory to claim the match. Goar proved to be clutch in the game's final points. With the match knotted at 21-21, the redshirt freshman provided the spark with three kills in the final points – including the last two to pull away from a 23-23 tie.

Goar hit .239 for the match and added 14 digs to pair with her 16 kills for her sixth double-double of the season.

Larsen joined Goar with her eighth double-double, putting together a fantastic performance with 10 kills and a match-high 43 assists. The true freshman also hit for a match-high .429 percentage and contributed six digs to the defensive effort.

Rampart was the third Warrior to record a double-double, earning her 11th of the year with a 12 kill, 13 dig performance. Kudronowicz also reached double digits in kills with 10.

Kalyn Biever was solid defensively, picking up a match-high 18 digs while Jamie Cairncross added 14 of her own.

As a team, the Warriors hit .250 while holding the Cougars to .224.

Winona State (14-4, 9-3 NSIC) welcomes No. 6 Southwest Minnesota State to McCown Gym Saturday for a 4 p.m. matchup.
