Warrior Volleyball Sweeps Upper Iowa 3-0

FAYETTE, Iowa – The Winona State volleyball team completed the season sweep of Upper Iowa, downing the Peacocks in straight sets to claim a 3-0 win (26-24, 25-22, 25-18) Tuesday night in Fayette.

Neither team was particularly hot in the first set, as the Warriors hit .188 to the Peacocks' .171, but WSU did just enough to escape with a game one victory. The Warriors faced a set point down 24-23, but rallied to take the next three points thanks to kills by Danielle Rampart and Kylea Rogelin followed by a UIU attack error to claim a 26-24 win. Rampart led the Warriors with five kills in the first set, while Taylor Goar had four on just six attempts.

The Warriors used another late game surge to down the Peacocks in set two. WSU controlled the lead for much of the early part of the match, and at one point had its biggest lead of the set at 14-9. From that point, however, Upper Iowa stole the next nine points to open up an 18-14 lead of its own. But with the Peacocks leading 22-19, WSU went on its own run, closing it out by taking the final six points on five combined kills from Rampart and Rachel Polland to win 25-22.

The Warriors started fast in the third set, jumping out to a 6-1 lead and forcing an early UIU timeout. WSU didn't let up from there, leading the entire way to cruise to a 25-18 victory in the final set and earn the match sweep.

Rampart notched her 14th double-double of the season with a 14-kill, 13-dig effort while also recording a pair of service aces. The freshman was the only Warrior with double-digit kills, while Polland recorded nine and hit .280.

Setter McKenna Larsen recorded her 11th – and third consecutive – double-double of the season, dishing out 36 assists while picking up 10 digs.

Jamie Cairncross recorded a match-high 20 digs, while Goar finished with 14 digs to lead a defense that forced Upper Iowa to hit just .088 for the match.

Winona State (16-6, 11-5 NSIC) heads back to Winona to prepare for its final regular season home stand this weekend. The Warriors will host Northern State Friday at 7 p.m. before welcoming in MSU Moorhead Saturday at 4 p.m. in McCown Gym.
