WINONA, Minn. -- The Winona State soccer team was in the driver's seat on a pair of occasions Friday night, but it was Concordia-St. Paul that rallied twice, then scored in overtime to post a 3-2 victory over the Warriors on a cold Halloween night in Winona.
After a quiet first half, the second period was busy from both sides with five combined goals.
Senior
Taylor Zehren scored her third goal of the season in the 56th minute off assists from
Kenzie Rose and
Kati Baker to put WSU up 1-0. The Warriors appeared to be in control of the match, but in the 81st minute the Golden Bears would tie it up when an Erica Landry shot fooled goalkeeper
Rachel Oleson and got past her to tie it at 1-1.
Less than two minutes later all appeared to be forgotten when
Hannah Burt scored unassisted to put the Warriors back out in front 2-1, but again Concordia fought back just minutes later with a goal in the 86th minute by Sarah Pieper to knot the score at 2-2 and put the game into overtime.
Each team would manage two shots in overtime, but Chelsie Lindsay would prove to provide the winning goal in the 97th minute, getting her own rebound and finding the back of the net for the 3-2 upset win.
Alaina Kne led all players with six shots in the game while putting two on goal.
Madalyn Jansen,
Devon Richards, Burt and Rose each posted two shots.
WSU outshot the Golden Bears 20-11 while holding a 9-1 advantage on corner kicks.
