No. 25 Warriors Cruise Past Sioux Falls 3-0

WINONA, Minn. – Sophomore Taylor Goar hit a season-high .415 and tied a season-high 20 kills as the No. 25 Winona State volleyball team cruised past Sioux Falls 3-0 (25-10, 25-21, 25-15) Friday night in McCown Gymnasium.

The Warriors jumped out to a quick 9-3 lead capped off with kills from Danielle Rampart and Jordan Runge that led to an early USF timeout, but the Warriors would only increase their lead as six straight WSU points stretched the lead to 18-6 before eventually running away with the 25-10 win.

The opening set was one of WSU's best of the season, racking up 18 kills compared to just two errors to hit a blistering .533 and holding USF to just .103.

WSU clung to an early lead in the second set, but a 4-0 Cougar spurt gave the road team a 14-11 lead. Sioux Falls appeared poised to even the match when it upped its lead to 19-13 and the Warriors were forced to take a timeout. But the Warriors stormed back with a 9-0 run led by six straight USF errors and three straight kills from Lauren Kudronowicz, Goar and McKenna Larsen before completing the comeback with a 25-21 win.

With a 7-6 USF lead in the third and final set, the Warriors used a 5-0 run - aided by four USF errors – to take an 11-7 lead. Winona State then used another 5-0 run to expand the lead to 16-9 and Goar closed the door with back-to-back kills to claim the match with a 25-15 win.

Goar just missed her eighth double double, finishing with nine digs to add to her 20 kills. Rampart hit a fantastic .571, connecting on nine of her 14 attacks with just one error.

Larsen notched her ninth double-double with a match-high 33 assists along with 11 digs while hitting .385.

Winona State (8-5, 2-4 NSIC) has a short turnaround as it hosts No. 5 Southwest Minnesota State at 2 p.m. Saturday in McCown Gym.
