WINONA, Minn. – McKenna Larsen recorded her second career triple-double and Danielle Rampart recorded a career-high 29 digs as the No. 24 Winona State volleyball team earned a 3-1 win over MSU Moorhead Friday night in McCown Gym.
Larsen dished out a match-high 47 assists while recording 10 kills and 10 digs for the Warriors' second triple-double of the season and second of her career. The sophomore also hit .296 for the match.
Rampart hit .371 with match-bests in kills (17) and digs (29) for her fifth double-double of the season. Taylor Goar made it three Warriors with double-doubles, contributing 15 kills and picking up 20 digs.
The Warriors used a late surge in the opening set to come away with the victory. A kill by the Dragons' Kaitlin VanWinkle put her team ahead 21-20, but WSU answered with an important 4-0 run sparked by three kills from Rampart to put the Warriors up 24-21 and forcing a Dragon timeout. MSUM fought off one set point, but Lauren Kudronowicz finished it off with a kill to claim a 25-22 win. Rampart led all scorers with six kills and seven digs in the opener.
WSU trailed early in set two as MSUM had an 8-6 advantage, but Winona State used a 9-2 run to jump out to a 15-10 lead and the Warriors cruised to a 25-20 victory and a 2-0 match lead.
WSU had its worst offensive effort of the match in the third with a .120 hitting percentage, while the Dragons had their best at .220. The result was a 25-20 win to force a fourth set, but the Warriors would have little trouble closing out the match as the only lead MSUM would have in the set was at 1-0. With WSU clinging to a 10-9 lead, the Warriors used an 8-1 run to jump in front 18-10 and Goar closed out the match with a kill for the eventual 25-17 win.
Lauren Kudronowicz was one of four Warriors to reach double-digit kills with 11. Freshman Maria Wrage turned in a strong effort, tallying nine kills and two blocks while hitting a team-best .381.
No. 24 Winona State (9-6, 3-5 NSIC) returns to McCown Gym Saturday afternoon to host No. 8 Northern State (16-0, 8-0) at 4 p.m.
