Warriors Fall To UC San Diego, 77-60

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Winona State men's basketball dropped its first game of the season Tuesday night, falling to UC San Diego 77-60.

Senior Mark Blacklock led the Warriors with 15 points and four rebounds, while junior Kyle Bauman added 11 points and freshman Connor Flack finished with 10.

WSU hung with the Tritons in the first half, trailing by just five points, 37-32, as the Warriors shot 50 percent (11-of-22) in the opening 20 minutes. But the Warriors cooled off in the second half, making just six of its 22 shots to finish the game at 38.6 percent from the field. The Warriors were a little better from 3-point range, hitting 45 percent of their shots (5-of-11).

Blacklock hit a jumper midway through the first half that gave WSU a 25-24 lead in a tightly played game up to that point, but a 13-8 run to end the half gave the Tritons the five-point halftime lead.

The run continued to start the second half, as 14-6 UCSB spurt opened up a 51-38 advantage and the Warriors were unable to get the deficit back to single digits again.

Conrad Masberg joined Blacklock with a team-best four rebounds, while Josh Mongan and Riley Bambenek each dished out three assists.

Winona State (1-1) continues its California road swing Friday night when it travels to Cal State San Bernardino at 9 p.m. (CST).
