WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State men's basketball team cruised to an 81-43 exhibition win over Wisconsin-Eau Claire in its first action under new head coach Todd Eisner.
Junior Kyle Bauman led the Warriors with a game-high 20 points on an efficient 9-of-13 shooting. Mark Blacklock added 14 points while going 4-of-7 from the floor and hitting all five free throws.
A pair of freshmen also scored in double figures, as Connor Flack turned in 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting and Tommy Gathje contributed 10 points, going 4-of-11 with six rebounds.
The Blugolds jumped out to a 5-0 lead a minute into the game, but a pair of Mark Blacklock free throws gave WSU its first lead at 10-9 at the 15:20 mark and the Warriors never looked back.
Bauman helped extend the WSU lead to 22-13 on a jumper with 5:33 to go in the half. Another jumper from Bauman upped the lead to 29-13 to cap off a 15-0 run spanning eight minutes. Continuing his hot streak, Bauman brought his first half point total to 13 when he scored to put WSU up 33-14.
Flack hit a 3-pointer with a minute to play in the half to extend the lead to 40-18 and went into the locker room holding a 40-21 lead.
The second half was much like the first, as the Warriors outscored the Blugolds 41-22 in the final 20 minutes to roll to the 81-43 final.
The Warriors finished the game shooting 45 percent from the field (32-of-71) while holding UWEC to 32 percent (16-of-50).
Riley Bambenek grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds and finished with eight points while hitting a pair of 3-pointers.
Winona State concludes its exhibition slate when it hosts Wisconsin-La Crosse Sunday for a 4 p.m. matchup in McCown Gymnasium.
